Man down – MEDIC!

The assessment and retrieval of casualties at night.
The assessment and retrieval of casualties at night.

The forest can be quite unkind. As part of Operation Wallacea’s ongoing research into the forest, lots of teams operate at night – especially the Bat and Herpetology teams and this can present a unique danger.

We teach our students how to assess casualties in the field in austere conditions. Sometimes this means going out to casualties at night, in the cold, and near wet places!

The emphasis is to work within your competence, and area of comfort.

We teach a simple ABCDE assessment with methods of retrieval of casualties.

Wait, isn’t that Steve in the river? How will the expedition run without the Project Manager?
